Notts County are the oldest professional club in the world. Having being a founder member of the league in 1888 the club has been up and down the leagues throughout its history, with the 1890-91 season seeing them finish 3rd in the top tier, their highest ever position. In more recent times the club has been in turmoil and almost went out of business is September 2004 before being taken over by a local consortium.
In 2009 there was there was excitement surrounding the appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson and new signings Sol Campbell and Kasper Schmeichel. This was short lived as the club was served another winding up order. Since then there has been 14 permanent managers and 3 owners of the club. With relegation to the football league for the first time in their history confirmed at the end of the 18/19 season.
Club Vision
The club is looking to youth for the future of the club. With signings under the age of 23 favoured and no signing of players of the age of 30 desired. But these are not strict rules.
As the club has been struggling with finances over the last few years it is no surprise that the club are wanting you to work within the wage budget. Signing players and selling for profit is also a requirement so the club can stay away from the horrors of their financial past.
The chairman is ambitious and would like the club to be promoted at the first attempt. A feat that has not been easy to do in recent years. Failure to do so will definitely result in you being sacked. Especially as the club is expected to be in a safe position in League Two in it’s second season.
Squad
Key Player
Enzio Boldewijn is seen as the best player in the squad. The tricky winger will be key to providing and scoring the much-needed goals to get the side promoted. Having endured a disappointing first season with the club, he will be looking to emulate the form shown whilst at Crawley Town which saw him end up in the double digits for goals.
Fringe Player
Regan Booty is will be looking to continue his footballing education having spent last season on loan at Aldershot. The former Huddersfield Town youth product plays predominantly as a defensive midfielder but can play a little higher up and down the left-hand side. This versatility will see him playing an important role in the promotion push.
Potential Star
Pierce Bird is seen as having a bright future for the club. The central defender played a few games last season, with this season looking to be his breakout year. With decent stats for a defender but low determination, it is likely you will need to push him hard to get the best out of him if he his to fulfill his potential.
Conclusion
Notts County have always had the potential to be a big team but have fallen well short. With the strict guidelines set out by the chairman it will be up to you to buy young and sell big your way up the leagues. With the short term goal being promotion at the first attempt you will need to hit the ground running.
