Welcome! Today, we will be reviewing a new custom Football Manager 2022 tactic/philosophy which was created by FM Gegen for his save at FC Nordsjælland.
In Denmark, there is one team that dominates. FC København, Brøndby and FC Midtjylland have competed for the Superliga title the last decade. We have to go back 10 years since FC Nordsjælland won their first, and last championship.
FM Gegen decided to take advantage of the famous FC Nordsjælland academy by using youth only. Today I’ll give you a further insight to the attacking tactic I applied at the club.
Welcome the brand new FM22 tactic Dominant 3-4-3 Press! Perhaps this is the system that can bring you as much success as it did for me in my FM22 FC Nordsjælland save.
About the FM22 Dominant 3-4-3 Press Tactic
The key things to note about the style of play is:
- Intense pressing & winning the ball back as fast as possible
- Front the start, attack and try to outscore the opposition
- The wing backs are heavily relied upon and ensuring they have the stamina & work rate to run up and down for the 90 mins
- Playout from the back, at times knock the ball about to frustrate the opposition
Let’s start by looking at the tactics & the team instructions firstly.
A few things to mention on the assigned positions here and how it works in game. Firstly, the Libero at the heart of the defense is the guy who is a CB/CDM, so he roams in front and pings the ball about, especially out wide.
The wing backs mainly burst up and either cut it back to a player inside to create movement or cross the ball. They also tackle hard & mark tight so when out of possession they will keep the opposition wingers close to them, meaning they will then burst a run back to help out.
The two playmakers in the centre of the pitch are quite creative with one joining the attack and the other just sitting deep picking out passes to the front guys. They also have the engine to run about and press the opposition which works at its best when the ball is won back and the counter starts.
As for the forwards, the false 9 causes the most damage for the opposition. He drags out the opposition centre half, which then makes room for all the runs to be made by the 2 forwards along with the wing backs. The other forwards get wide and slot in between the centre half and full back, which makes life difficult for the opposition especially when wing backs add to that in attack.
Team Instructions:
Now that we have seen the tactic set up, let’s see the results & how the tactic made such an impact in Denmark! Here’s some attacking team statistics.
Data Hub:
So, as we can see some interesting data! The attacking data is a great read and it shows how dominating we were on the front foot. The tactic creates many changes during the game no matter who the opposition and the phase of play works well, especially with how many shots are converted per game.
Other Stats:
As we can see, scoring is not a problem for this tactic. You are almost guaranteed goals in every game which is how games are won right?
An interesting stat which I didn’t expect was somehow keeping possession at the same time as pressing intensely. The main contributor to this is how the ball is played from the back and knocked out first before unleashing the attack. Also, it shows that once the ball was lost, it was retained back quick.
How the Tactic improved players:
Here is a couple of samples of how the tactic/style of play improved the forward line. We can see that both players, as seasons went on improved, and scoring goals was no issue. The only downside is that this type of form starts attracting interest from other clubs! But if your a smaller club, then it is more money for you right?
Backroom Staff Helps:
It is all well creating a tactic/style of play but the hard work is done on the training ground. Therefore, you need staff that will help & develop your players. Here is an example of me bringing in a excellent attacking coach who has been a big part in helping the forward line progress. This is an example of an attacking coach but you need to add quality coaches where possible, so they can work with the players during the week.
The Final Result:
What would be the point of an exciting tactic, if it didn’t bring you any success. Our dominating display meant, the team won the league for the first time in over a decade. Outscoring every team by some, however, leaking in a few goals which is a part of the process for this formation.
If you want to be a team that is an underdog that wants to challenge for more, then this is the tactic for you. This is what we call the “nothing to lose” tactic. The reason being is, yes there are so many goals scored but expect goals to be let in too. This tactic, will give you the edge in every game and even cause issues for the bigger oppositions.
