… in May 1999, Manchester United famously lifted the Champions League trophy. Who doesn’t remember their historic treble winning season, when Dwight Yorke was written off at the start of the year as being ‘too expensive’.
… talking about Manchester United, Peter Schmeichel decided to leave the club and was replaced by Massimo Taibi and Mark Bosnich… I wonder what happened to them?
… on the other side of Manchester, Manchester City had just been promoted from Division 2 to Division 1. Playing in what we now know as the Sky Bet Championship.
… current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was still playing for Barcelona.
… the Ballon D’Or was awarded to Rivaldo (Barcelona).
Speaking of Barcelona… 1999-2000 where when Barcelona went Dutch! Louis van Gaal as manager, Ronald Koeman as assistant manager. 8 dutch players affecting the style of play Barca would later on be recognized for under the leadership of Josep Guardiola. The most famous Dutch players at Barcelona were Frank de Boer, Ronald de Boer and Patrick Kluivert.
… also in the ranks of Barcelona the young wonderkid Mikel Arteta was emerging.

1999-2000 seasons was the time when Gabriel Batistuta, Dennis Bergkamp, Alessandro Del Piero, Ronaldo, Marc Overmars and Christian Vieri all bagged in goals and were in their prime! Who doesn’t remember the sublime technique of Rivaldo, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham, or the aggression and tackles of Roy Keane.
Then you had excellent defenders in the Italian squad with Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta, great leadership in Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Kohler, Antonio Conte, Oliver Kahn and Edgar Davids.
Wonderkids that year were Nicolas Anelka, Ronaldinho, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Juan Roman Riquelme, while Dirk Kuyt, Joe Cole, Adriano, Pablo Aimar, Gareth Barry and Xabi Alonso were all in their teens knocking on the doors to the first team.

With future wonderkids patches for further updates, it gives you the chance to get all the stars of today coming through the Academy again for you to develop according to your preferences. You’ll discover over 1,000 youngsters created who will come to their teams when they turn 14, meaning you can carry on playing this save until 2040 (which would be 2020 season) to find Kylian Mbappe in your save at the age he is now!
This means that you will experience the likes of Trent Alexander Arnold, Lionel Messi, Mason Greenwood and many more coming through in your save as regens!
